Botanic Garden and Attenborough Arboretum
Islamic Art
For KS2 using the plants at the Botanic Garden to inspire them to create a piece of Islamic style art.
After a teacher led introduction looking at examples of Islamic Art and the use of plants in art the children go around the Garden to sketch different examples of parts of plants that they see. This can include visiting the Botanic Garden glasshouses.
They then return to the classroom and use their sketches to create stencils of plant parts. These are then used as a repeated pattern to create their own artistic pieces. Year 3/4 build their work on two parallel wavy lines. Year 5/6 create their pattern in a twelve sided shape.
