How to apply as an international student

Dependent on the level of study you are applying for, there are a number of options available to international students.

Undergraduates

Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)

International students wishing to study an undergraduate course at a UK university may be able to apply through (UCAS) if your school or college is registered with the service. UCAS provide application advice for international students eligible to use this application method.

UCAS Extra

Not holding any offers and want to join us in September 2024? Extra is another chance for you to gain a place at university or college, between 28 February and 4 July 2024. If you used all five of your choices on your original application, have received decisions from all five, and weren’t accepted, or if you declined the offers you received, you will be able to use Extra.

Postgraduates

Apply directly to the University

International students can apply directly to study at Leicester. When making an application, make sure you have the following documents:

  • Academic qualifications and transcripts
  • Personal statement
  • References, or the name and contact details of people we can request references from (at least one must be an academic referee)
  • Proof of English language competency (if English is not your first language)

The more documentation you are able to provide, the quicker the decision-making process will be. You can upload electronic versions of your supporting documentation.

Research degrees (PhDs)

How you apply for funded studentship opportunities depends on the specific opportunity you are applying for. Opportunities in our three colleges: the College of Life Sciences, the College of Science and Engineering, and the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, offer a direct application process. Whereas Research Council studentships have a variety of application methods.
