The Leicester Award
We want you to make the most of your time at university, so we’ve created the Leicester Award – your inspirational personal development programme. We will introduce you to a wide range of activities including volunteering and professional mentoring. You’ll develop your confidence, resilience and decision making skills to help you to create a bright future for yourself.
Our careers fairs are a great way for you to meet organisations, explore opportunities and learn about different career paths. Our Festival of Careers is one of the largest graduate recruitment events in the UK. In 2016, more than 130 employers attended the five-day event to promote internships and thousands of graduate roles. As part of the Festival, we help make sure that you’re fully prepared to meet employers and get the most from the experience.
"My colleagues and I were extremely impressed with the calibre of students we spoke to. Especially with the preparation and thought they had put in before attending the event … which meant we were able to give them advice rather than generic information." - Farida Lockhat, Jaguar LandRover
Work experience and placements
In today's competitive jobs market, more and more employers expect new graduates to have substantial experience of the workplace. Many of our courses involve a placement with an employer. Some can last as long as a year, while others are based around single short-term projects. You will gain valuable insight into what employers expect from graduates and an invaluable first step in building your work experience.
Volunteering is a great way to enhance your time at Leicester. We have a thriving volunteering culture, with around 1,300 students involved every year. Whether you want to volunteer in the community or a school, support vital environmental work or the work of local and national charities, we have plenty of one-off, short-term and long-term voluntary opportunities – or we can help you find your own.
Student and part-time work
Whether you're looking for a part-time job for a couple of hours a week, or something full-time for a short period, our in-house recruitment agency Unitemps, can help you. Jobs are available both inside the University and in the local area, so no matter what you’re looking for - admin, events, catering or retail - there's sure to be something there for you.
