International Merit Scholarship

This merit-based scholarship, worth at least £3,000 per year, is offered to international-fee-paying students applying for an undergraduate degree (excluding Medicine and LLB Maitrise) or Master's degree at the University of Leicester. A higher-level award of £5,000 will be made to applicants demonstrating exceptional academic performance.

Chancellor’s International Scholarship

To honour Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock PhD as the University of Leicester's Chancellor, we are pleased to offer our Chancellor's International Scholarship to all international-fee-paying students who meet our entry requirements for an undergraduate (excluding Medicine and LLB Maitrise) or postgraduate taught degree.

External scholarships

You may be eligible for these scholarships offered by external organisations in cooperation with the University.

Malaysia Law Scholarship (LLB)

This tuition fee scholarship is awarded to a Malaysian (applicants domiciled in Malaysia can be any nationality with international fee-paying status but reside in Malaysia) domiciled international fee-paying student worth up to £30,000 over the duration of three years. This scholarship awards a £10,000 tuition fee discount per year for up to three years to study the LLB (Year 1, 2 or 3 entry) programme commencing September 2025.

Sanctuary scholarships

We believe that higher education should be accessible to all based on merit alone, and are pleased to offer up to four sanctuary scholarships to help reduce the barriers to participation in higher education faced by those seeking asylum in the UK. Each scholarship consists of a tuition fee waiver, and a support package to be confirmed following assessment with our Welfare Service.

Family loyalty discount

If you have a sibling, spouse or parent who is either currently studying on – or has graduated from – a full-time course at the University of Leicester, you may qualify for a 10% discount on the tuition fee for each year of your course.

Alumni discount

If you are a self-financing student and have either completed an undergraduate degree (or PGCE course) at the University of Leicester, or completed a Study Abroad or Erasmus study placement at the University of Leicester, or completed a postgraduate (Master's) degree at the University of Leicester, and you are progressing onto a higher level degree, you are entitled to a discount of 20% of the new course fee.

Scholarships and financial assistance

You should check in your own country whether scholarships are available for study overseas, either from your government or other organisations. You can also find scholarships from searching on the Education UK database.

The British Council, which has offices around the world, can also provide information about financial assistance.

Scholarships will not normally cover your entire funding needs, so you are likely to need to look at a combination of funding sources, which may include scholarships, grants, loans and personal or family savings.

Almost all scholarships, including those offered by the University, offer only partial funding support, usually in the form of a contribution to fees. Most scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, and competition from well-qualified students is fierce. You also need to plan ahead, so that you can meet the deadlines for scholarship applications. Please note that you cannot apply for University scholarships until you have been offered a place.
