University of Leicester GREAT Scholarships 2026

In partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, the University of Leicester is offering one scholarship of £10,000 GBP to students in Pakistan applying for a one-year postgraduate course (excluding PGCEs).

The GREAT Scholarships 2026 programme, launched by the British Council together with over 60 UK universities, supports postgraduate students from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam in accessing world-class UK higher education opportunities.

The scholarship programme offers financial support of £10,000 to students pursuing one-year postgraduate study in the UK. Students can apply for courses in a range of subjects, at over 60 institutions across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Please note that applicants must be permanent residents and passport holders of Bangladesh, China (mainland only), Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, or Vietnam.

Application process

To apply for this scholarship, you must complete an application form.

You are asked to answer the following within the application form:

  1. We are seeking scholars who will serve as outstanding ambassadors for the University of Leicester. In no more than 200 words, please describe how you will embody our University’s values as a Citizen of Change during your time at Leicester. Provide a specific example to illustrate your commitment to making a positive impact within the University and beyond.

  2. We aim to support students who have a clear vision for their future. Please create a short video (no longer than 60 seconds) explaining how studying your chosen programme at the University of Leicester will help you achieve your goals and shape your plans after graduation.

  3. We are seeking scholars who demonstrate excellence both academically and in their mindset. Priority will be given to applicants who have achieved the equivalent of a high First-Class Honours degree at undergraduate level.

Application timeline

  • Application window: 5 November 2025 to 31 May 2026.
  • Shortlisting and final selection: 1 June 2026 to 19 June 2026.
  •  Notification window: The final winners will be informed by 26 June 2026.

Terms and conditions

  1. You must be classified as an international student for fee purposes and a permanent resident and passport holder of Pakistan.
  2. You must be starting a full-time campus-based Masters course commencing in September 2026. This excludes the PGCE.
  3. The fee as stated in your offer letter is the final fee and no other discount will apply.
  4. The discount will be awarded for a maximum of one year.
  5. It does not include the cost of an industrial placement or any resit costs.
  6. Please refer to the relevant course page for the current placement fee.
  7. If you are a sponsored student, unless otherwise stated, you are still eligible for the discount provided you meet the other eligibility criteria.
  8. Eligible students in receipt of a Commonwealth Masters, or Chevening fully funded scholarship do not qualify for this fee discount.
