Studying in the UK can be a fantastic, life-changing experience, and we want to make sure we support you and your child every step of the way: from application to graduation.

We're excited to welcome a member of your family to the University of Leicester.

Agents

Education agents can help you find the right university, college, or school in the UK and assist with applying for a course. Education agents can also advise on other matters such as visas, accommodation, and travel.

The British Council has put together a guide on how to identify and choose an agent to help you and your child apply for university.

From school to university

The transition from school to university can be challenging, and parents and students may often have concerns about what to expect when starting university.

The three most important changes from school are:

  • UK study culture emphasizes independent learning, critical thinking and analysis, and interactive classrooms.
  • Leicester offers many support services that international students can access - remember they will need to be proactive in accessing these for us to help.
  • Students are expected to be responsible for their time management and organisation – for example, meeting assessments and exam deadlines.

The University of Leicester offers a wide range of support to students to ensure they perform to the best of their abilities and succeed at every step of their Leicester journey.

Accommodation

As a new first-year student, you are guaranteed an offer of University-managed accommodation if you apply before 1 September in the year you start your degree.

The University has two purpose-built accommodation hubs: The Village and The City. These feature both en-suite and shared facility rooms, and prices are inclusive of all bills. Residential advisers ensure the safety and well-being of students in all University-managed accommodation. Each hub has a social area where your child can socialise with other students.

Wherever you choose, you will have access to all of The Village facilities. All properties are self-catered.

Tuition fees

You can pay your child’s tuition fees through various methods: online payment by card, international bank transfer, and direct bank transfer. Your child will not be able to complete online registration as a Leicester student until the payment is in our bank account – so don’t delay. If a sponsor has agreed to pay all or part of your tuition fee, there is a different process. For any questions, email feesandincome@leicester.ac.uk.

If you live outside the UK/Ireland, you will need to pay a £3,000 deposit to secure your place at Leicester.

If you have applied for a Student Finance Tuition Fee Loan and it is approved, payment will be received directly from Student Finance to the University. This information is for students without a Student Finance Loan who intend to pay their tuition fees directly and for students staying in university accommodation.

If your financial circumstances change, contact the Student Fees and Income Office at feesandincome@leicester.ac.uk or call +44 (0)116 252 3733.

The University hosts a yearly Festival of Careers where students can meet employers such as PwC, the Civil Service, NHS, and KPMG, as well as offering lifetime access to the Graduate Toolkit which offers guidance and support for starting your child's journey in their career after graduation.
