Inspirational Women

Jayne Marshall

Jayne was appointed as Foundation Professor of Midwifery with the daunting task of developing from scratch the pioneering undergraduate Master in Science (MSci) Midwifery with Leadership, the only course of its kind in the UK.

It is Jayne’s passion for her profession, her desire for the excellence of education and her position as a leader in midwifery education both nationally and internationally, that inspires her colleagues in the School of Healthcare and her students. Jayne leads by example; from developing the programme with just herself – no academic team and minimal support – the programme now sits as a success story within the school alongside the MSci Nursing with Leadership programme.

Beyond her substantial achievements in relation to curriculum innovation and skills development, it is Jayne’s belief in developing the leadership skills of her colleagues and creating opportunities for them to excel in the discipline that is inspirational. She facilitates and supports colleagues transitioning from the practical frontline of midwifery to the classrooms of Higher Education, which is crucially important in the enduring sustainability and success of midwifery education.

Jayne inspires me through her commitment to teaching the future generations of midwives. She is an excellent role model to me and to others for what can be achieved. Jayne is supporting my own development as a leader and actively seeks opportunities for me to learn through shadowing her role and supporting me to attend the university's Women Leading with Purpose programme.
