The sheer diversity of pathogens and the exotic mechanisms they have evolved to escape the human immune system make them a fascinating topic to study. Having chosen and completed a specialised route through one of our BSc in Medical Sciences programmes you have the opportunity continue into a fourth year of masters level study.
Each of the integrated masters years allows you to focus on refining your research and laboratory skills in your subject of interest and gives you the opportunity to practice the transferable employability skills learned in your first three years. The choice of integrated masters years includes specialisms in: Molecular Genetics, Cancer Cell Biology, Cancer Molecular Pathology and Therapeutics, Infection and Immunity, Chronic Disease and Inflammation and Research Methods in Neuroscience/Animal Behaviour.
The analytical and critical skills you acquire by studying an integrated masters in Medical Sciences are particularly valued by PhD supervisors, researchers and employers in non-scientific fields.
In addition to attending lectures, seminars or other timetabled sessions you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. Typically, this will involve reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, undertaking research in the library, preparing coursework assignments and presentations, and preparing for exams. To help with your independent learning, you can access the Library and our social study spaces in halls of residence.
