The University of Leicester has collaborated with Microsoft to provide full access to Microsoft 365 Copilot for all students, and staff from September 2026. As one of the first Microsoft Frontier Universities in the UK, Leicester is at the forefront of AI in higher education.
This collaboration will give our whole community the skills, confidence and creativity to thrive in a rapidly changing world. As Citizens of Change, our students and staff do not just respond to the future, they help shape it.
By making Copilot available, we are removing barriers and creating a more inclusive environment where every student and member of staff can access powerful tools and opportunities. With the right support, our community will build digital fluency, think critically and work confidently alongside emerging technologies.
This partnership strengthens our commitment to future-ready graduates and forward-thinking staff. Together, we are developing in-demand AI capabilities, real-world problem-solving skills and the confidence to lead in a global, digital economy.
We are taking a careful and considered approach to how AI is introduced. Copilot will be embedded in ways that support learning, teaching and daily work, guided by clear principles around ethics, inclusion and academic integrity, with training and support to help everyone feel confident and in control.
By integrating AI where it adds real value, we can free up time for more meaningful work and support more sustainable practices through greater efficiency and reduced waste.
