Accommodation

Student sitting at desk in the Village accommodation

Coming to Leicester to study might be your first time living away from home. We know you'll have an amazing, memorable time whilst staying in our accommodation, packed with new friends and new experiences. Explore your options on our website.

It’s really important to us that you feel at home during your time here. Our halls of residence provide a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment that makes settling into university life so much easier. From the moment you arrive, our teams will be around to help you collect your key, meet new people and get settled in. This is what makes living in halls different from living in a shared house or private accommodation.

If you have an enquiry regarding our accommodation, please contact accommodation@le.ac.uk.

Step 1: Browse our accommodation

Search our selection of University-managed accommodation and find out which is best for you:

Step 2: Arrange your accommodation

The University of Leicester has a wide range of accommodation, from purpose-built residential buildings to converted Edwardian houses, across our two sites The Village and The City (including our brand new Freemen's Common development).

Living in halls is a great way to kickstart your University experience and become part of our thriving student community. There's a really active social life with over 70 Residence Life events happening each month.

Browse our accommodation and apply online

Once you have accepted your accommodation offer you will need to complete the online Accommodation Welcome. If you have any questions about any of our accommodation or applying for accommodation, please contact the Accommodation Team:

If you want to explore other accommodation options in the city, our Students’ Union works with SULETS to provide a student-focused letting service. You can also apply to stay in University-managed accommodation after your first year.

Step 3: Get packing!

Browse our tips on handy items you might want to bring with you to accommodation.

To make things easier, common items such as bedding packs, kitchen essentials, and towels are available to buy from the online shop.

There are also supermarkets and shops located close to our accommodation options including Asda (The Village) and Morrison's (The City) - so don't worry if you have forgotten something.

Step 4: Arriving at halls

We can’t wait to welcome you into your new home for the year. You’re probably feeling a mixture of nervous and excited, but don’t worry, we’ll give you all the information you need so that you can focus on the exciting part.

Complete your Accommodation Welcome

In January we’ll open the Accommodation Welcome - your online induction where you can find out all you need to know about living in halls. You can access it through the Accommodation portal and we’ll contact you nearer the time to remind you. It’s important that you complete the Accommodation Welcome as soon as you can because it's a great way to find out what to expect when you arrive, along with essential advice on safety and security. You will be able to go back and view the information in the Accommodation Welcome whenever you like.

Book your arrival slot

Once you’ve completed your Accommodation Welcome, you’ll be able to book your arrival slot. You’ll be able to login to your accommodation account and select the ‘Arrival’ link on the homepage to book the date and time of your arrival. You can choose what time you’ll be arriving on Welcome Weekend. If you’re a medical student or international student your arrival weekend will be one week earlier.

Any student on any course can use the arrival booking tool to request early arrival into accommodation. In most cases when you request an arrival date earlier than your contract start date, you will be allocated to your term-time room and will be charged a nightly rate for the additional nights in that room. Whilst we will do our best to allocate you into your term-time room, there is a possibility that you will be given a different room until the start date of your contract.

Check-in

Once you’ve chosen your arrival slot you’ll receive a check-in document by email. This has details of your booking and arrival information, such as parking locations and addresses. Please print out your check-in document and bring this with you to your key collection point.

If you have any questions or issues with the Accommodation Welcome or arrival booking tool, you can contact the Accommodation Team 24/7:

If you are living in private accommodation, your provider will be able to let you know when you are able to move in.
