About the University of Leicester

Glynis Wright MBE

Dr Glynis Wright is an alumna of the University of Leicester acquiring a BA (Hons) in English and Philosophy in 1984. She decided to remain in Leicester after graduating and commenced a career in local government most latterly within the field of economic development. 

When she was forty, she decided to return to university as a mature student to study law where she achieved the highest marks over three campuses. Glynis was offered a Partnership in local law firm Frisby & Small within 2 years of qualifying as a Solicitor and then in 2010 broke away from the partnership to run her own specialist family law firm - Glynis Wright & Co Family Solicitors and Mediators.

In 2020, Glynis sold her law firm to Nelsons LLP where she continued to lead her team of family lawyers as an equity Partner until leaving Nelsons in March 2023.  On 1 May 2024 she successfully launched her new business The Alternative Divorce Company.

Glynis was elected President of the Leicestershire Law Society and served from 2019 to 2020. She was awarded an honorary life-time membership of the Law Society for her dedication to the profession over many years.

In 2020, Glynis was named in the Queen’s New Year Honours List and received an MBE from Princess Anne for her services to female entrepreneurship.

In July 2023, Glynis was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Leicester in recognition of her services to law and business and in February 2024 she received the Freedom of the City of London. 

Glynis has offered her time and expertise in many ways to her local academic and business communities. She was Chair of the Advisory Board for the Faculties of Business and Law at De Montfort University for 3 years. She served as a Non-Exec Director on the Board of the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) until March 2024. She is an Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Leicester Business School and gives her pro bono time to delivering talks to business students and she has been a guest lecturer within the University of Leicester’s Law School. She is a freeman of the Company of Entrepreneurs in London where she gives further pro bono time to outreach activities and mentoring young entrepreneurs and has also been a Trustee of Charity Alex’s Wish, whom she has faithfully served for 7 years now.
