Support for mental health and wellbeing

Access to support with mental health and wellbeing is so important in our community. Moving to university can be an overwhelming experience – and the following three or four years may get stressful at times. Don’t worry, University of Leicester staff understand this and are here to help, whether you reach out to a Library Advisor, to accommodation staff, or your personal tutor, we are all prepared to put your health and wellbeing first.

There are mental health first aid trained staff across campus, the Personal Tutor Framework, and our Student Wellbeing Service which offers a wide range of free and confidential services to any students who need them. The University also has the AccessAbility Centre which offers support and advice for students with dyslexia or other specific learning difficulties as well as working with students who have sensory disabilities, mobility difficulties; mental health conditions and autism.

Understanding your academic experience (teaching)

Our Support Services help scaffold you throughout your academic journey. Having constructive and consistent information around the teaching you will receive is vital.

The Academic Induction Programme at Leicester advises all schools to deliver a consistent approach to your learning, the guidance documents provided to schools include checklists and suggestions of what to include within their planning.

The HeadStart+ programme is a two-week course aimed at giving international students training in key academic skills in preparation for university study in the UK and the Student Union Peer Mentoring scheme is about helping new students settle in to life at the University of Leicester through peer-to-peer support.

The Personal Tutor Framework is in place to support you on a one-to-one basis to support you with any queries you have regarding your teaching. The clearer we are, the closer you are to your goals.
