LGBT research seminar to explore medieval and military sexualities
As part of LGBT+ History Month 2017 our University will host a free public event showcasing research into LGBT+ identities, including during the medieval period and throughout military history on Thursday 16 February between 12pm and 1pm.
The event will be presented by academics, Professor Phillip Shaw, Dr Emma Parker, Robert Payne and Dr David Clark, from the University of Leicester’s School of Arts.
- Professor Shaw will present findings from the Passions of War research network which brings together a range of international participants to investigate the influence of war on constructions of gender and sexual practices.
- Robert Payne will address the portrayal of planned lesbian mothering in two French autobiographies.
- Dr David Clark will be talking about how we approach the topic of LGBT+ identities in the medieval period.
- Dr Parker will discuss how Leicester-born playwright Joe Orton articulated his artistic sensibility and sexuality through music.
The research seminar is free to University of Leicester staff, students and the public and will be held in the Belvoir Park Annexe, Charles Wilson Building Second Floor between 12pm – 1pm on Thursday 16 February.
The University of Leicester is hosting a wide range of events for LGBT+ History Month including a screening of Rolla Selback’s award winning film Three Veils followed by a Q&A session with Rolla, a guest lecture by Guardian journalist, feminist and transgender activist Jane Fae and an evening with LGBT+ rights activist Tom Robinson.
