Collection history

The Mines of Memory Collection was created at Snibston, North-West Leicestershire, in 2008/9 as part of a project to record how workers at Snibston and Whitwick collieries remembered their work. A CD and audio trail was created and the information gathered was added to the extensive mining memorabilia at Snibston. Snibston Museum closed in 2016.

What the collection contains

The collection includes interviews with 23 people and subjects covered include work at the coal face, work with particular machines, surveying, work in the stores, the engine shed, the canteen, office work, work culture, relations with management, strikes, and mining galas.
