One Picture - Two Worlds
Martha Papadopoulou - School of Geography, Geology and the Environment
Ever wondered what happens to all these rocks collected by geologists? Or wondered what the inside of the Earth might look like? Thin sections, slices of rock, like this one, can show us not only what the Earth’s interior looks like, but also the long journey a rock has taken, within magma, to travel from the Earth’s mantle to the Earth’s surface. Two very different worlds, with different chemical compositions, minerals and histories that reacted together to create a band of new minerals, representing the need for balance in every natural system.
