The Operating Department Practice BSc is a vocational degree, designed to maximise your experience and the benefits you gain from the course. Unlike a typical degree which runs over three terms or two semesters with a long summer break, the BSc in ODP at Leicester runs for 48 weeks each year. This will give you almost three years of uninterrupted study with 65% of your time spent in clinical placement. You will have excellent access to real patients and expert ODP teams and the opportunity to gain varied and detailed experience. This wealth of first-hand experience will enable you to develop and enhance your clinical skills and boost your employability.
The programme takes place over a continuous three year-period with two intakes a year. These will commence in April and September.
Student Operating Department Practitioner placements in Nottingham, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire and Leicester, provide the necessary experiences to develop clinical skills and exposure to the reality of this rapidly advancing area of healthcare.
The curriculum has been designed with the belief that the integration of academic and work based learning in the operating theatre environment is the best way to develop students that are well equipped to meet the needs of future employers. Therefore this is a busy and challenging programme which delivers real opportunities for a lifelong career in the Operating Department. Our ODP Education programme will also create a professional group of learners who have opportunities open to them for lifelong learning. The Operating Department Practice qualification (BSc ODP) entitles you to apply for registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), as a Registered ODP.
