The Year of the Rooster will begin on Saturday 28 January and the festival lasts until Wednesday 15 February.

President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Boyle has recorded a video message to the University's Chinese community and prospective students

Meng, who is studying for a BA in Management Studies, said: “I came from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and this is my first Chinese New Year in Leicester. Luckily we’ve finished all the exams and can fully enjoy the short holiday break. Our Chinese friends will gather together and try to make the dumplings ourselves at the New Year’s eve. Although I live far away from my parents, I can join their celebration activities via video calling, and watch live celebration performance online with them. I will definitely leave my wishes at the wishing tree on campus and bring my best luck for the year of Fire Rooster. I wish all my friends in Leicester and Guangzhou a very happy Chinese New Year.”
