Statement on Percy Gee Building refurbishment

The Percy Gee Building on the University of Leicester campus.

A University of Leicester spokesperson said: “We are investing in the Percy Gee Building to create improved, more welcoming spaces which provide a range of environments and facilities to meet the diverse needs of students and deliver a better experience of the Percy Gee Building, reflecting their feedback.

“We want to reassure students that LetsDisko, Leicester’s much-loved and largest student club night, will continue throughout the refurbishment works, temporarily relocating to Athena in Leicester city centre.

“Refurbishment work is due to begin in early 2027 and will include a refurbished nightclub area, expanded spaces for student societies, additional social and faith spaces, and a refreshed Square.

“During the works, the club night will relocate before returning to the University campus in Autumn 2027 when the refurbishment is expected to be complete.

“The redevelopment of the space is intended to make the space more accessible to students throughout the week and it is envisaged that a new operator will take over the running of a nightclub facility in the Students’ Union (Percy Gee) Building, in 2027. The entertainment offering will be reviewed and enhanced, including the potential for staging concerts.”
