Leicester graduate taking part in new series of The Great British Bake Off
A University graduate and amateur baker is hoping to impress Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood with her culinary prowess, as she has been revealed as one of the 12 contestants in the new series of The Great British Bake Off.
23-year-old Benjamina Ebuehi (pictured), graduated from our University in 2015 with a first class degree in Economics with a Year Abroad. She now works as a Teaching Assistant, living in south London.
Benjamina, who describes her twin sister as one of her biggest critics, began baking at the age of 14. She likes to combine classic, simple flavours with a fresh, modern style and takes pride in the presentation of her bakes.
She will face three challenges per episode: a signature bake, a technical challenge, and a show-stopper; after which the judges will crown their ‘Star Baker’ and choose the weakest baker to be eliminated, before the final three battle it out in the final to be crowned the winner.
You can tune in and show your support for Benjamina at 8pm, Wednesday 24 August, BBC 1.
Benjamina is the second University of Leicester graduate to compete in The Great British Bake Off - Ali Imdad, who graduated with a degree from our School of Management, was a contestant on the fourth series. During the series Ali impressed the judges with a series of dishes including vanilla latte mini cakes and a chocolate, raspberry and passion fruit engagement cake - and he made it through to the fourth week.
Rachel Holland, President of the Students' Union, said: "We’re really excited to see Benjamina on Bake Off this year – our second Leicester graduate – and as a Union will be following her progress through the show intently. We have a number of bakers in the SU team, and hope our students will be just as inspired by Benjamina as we are!”
