About the University of Leicester

David Fisher

We have learned, with sadness, of the death of David Fisher, who was the University’s first Head of Computing. Mr Fisher passed away on 23 November 2024 in a hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. The University extends deepest condolences to his wife Winsome.

David Fisher was appointed in the 1970s. He took early retirement around 1990 and then accepted a post as Head of the Computing Facility at the King Khaled Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Aftab Khan remembers: “David was a keen cricketer from Yorkshire. We played in a team called CGCCC (Combined Geology and Computing Cricket Club) as Computing was too small to have its own team. The team won the Gilmour Lee Interdepartmental Cricket Trophy five times. Such cross departmental bonhomie was very beneficial to the University.”
