Times Higher Education World Rankings put Leicester’s research quality in the UK top 10
The University of Leicester is in the top 10 UK universities when it comes to research quality, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027.
Leicester was ranked 10th best UK university for research quality in the annual rankings, which are recognised as the world’s most comprehensive evaluation of university performance. Out of the 2,297 institutions in the global tables, Leicester was also ranked =42nd in the world for research quality.
The overall assessment of the University saw Leicester hold its position as a top 30 UK university, being placed 26th out of the 111 UK institutions included in the tables.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are the only global performance tables that judge more than 2,200 research-intensive universities from 118 countries across all their core missions. Recognised as the world’s most comprehensive evaluation of university performance, the methodology behind the rankings includes 18 indicators to assess institutions across five key areas: teaching, research quality, research environment, industry and international outlook.
Leicester experienced a rise in the UK industry placings, going up one position to 26th. International outlook (26th) at Leicester was also placed in the top quartile of UK universities, along with industry and research quality.

The news continues a sustained period of strong performance from Leicester across major national and international league tables.
Earlier this month, The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027 placed Leicester 31st out of all UK universities.
The Guardian University Guide 2027 ranked Leicester at =39th among UK universities and seven subject areas in their respective national top ten. Together, the results highlight the University's consistency across the sector's most influential rankings and it remains within the UK's top 40 institutions across all major domestic and international league tables.
In August, Leicester recorded its highest-ever position in the Daily Mail University Guide 2027, rising seven places to 27th= out of 128 UK universities. It also maintained its place among the UK's leading institutions in the Complete University Guide 2027. Earlier this year, the University rose 12 places in the QS World University Rankings 2027 to =314th place and achieved its third consecutive year of improvement in the National Student Survey.
