Films featuring three leading empathic healthcare experts sharing their knowledge with healthcare professionals and researchers have been released online.
CBS News’ award-winning Chief Medical Correspondent Professor Jon LaPook, MD, Professor Monika Arora, of the Public Health Foundation of India, and Professor Gozie Offiah, of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, gave keynote speeches at the 2025 Global Empathy in Healthcare Network Symposium.
The event in Leicester was attended by around 120 healthcare professionals, researchers and educators from across the world and the network has now released recordings of its three keynote speeches to further advance empathic healthcare education.
Professor Jeremy Howick, Co-founder, with Catherine Eyres, of the Global Empathy in Healthcare Network, and Director of the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare at the University of Leicester, said: “This year’s symposium featured lively debates, engaging workshops and insightful talks.
“It was an incredible opportunity to hear from the very best empathic healthcare experts from around the world and to learn how healthcare professionals can use empathy to rehumanise healthcare in an era of technological advancements and remote interactions.
“This is vital because we know that empathic healthcare cuts practitioner burnout and improves patients’ outcomes and experience of their healthcare.
“To help even more healthcare professionals, researchers and educators learn about empathic healthcare we’re pleased to announce that we have now released live recordings of the symposium’s three keynote speeches online.”
The Global Empathy in Healthcare Network is made up of key international empathic healthcare leaders and organisations, including the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare. Its members are dedicated to promoting empathic healthcare education and to working together to encourage countries to put empathy at the heart of healthcare.
Last month the network was shortlisted for the International Collaboration of the Year title in the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2025, which recognise excellence and innovation across the UK higher education sector. The winners will be announced in November.
