Family friendly free event to showcase the region’s heritage

A free family friendly event which puts the spotlight on the rich heritage of our city and region takes place at the University of Leicester on Saturday 22 March.

The annual Celebration of Heritage public event will mark the second anniversary of the University’s Heritage Hub and is in partnership with Literary Leicester festival.

Established in 2023, the Heritage Hub brings people and organisations together to connect, explore and celebrate the rich heritage of Leicester and surrounding region.

Visitors to the Celebration of Heritage will be able to find out about exciting developments at the Jewry Wall Museum, which is due to reopen this year, from representatives from Leicester Museums and Galleries and the Friends of the Jewry Wall Museum. There will also be the chance to have a go at Roman jewellery making and uncover real Roman finds in our dig pit!

University experts will be hosting stalls and activities, including Professor Kate Loveman, who will showcase research on Samuel Pepys's Diary, the Great Fire of London and Deaf History. There will also be interactive displays from the University’s Archives and Special Collections, including historical recipe demonstrations with Josh Smalley, chemist and Bake-Off finalist.

Musical entertainment will be provided by talented student musicians.

There will be more than 50 organisations showcasing some amazing venues and programmes. New exhibitors for the 2025 event include Social Gallery and the UK South Asian Digital Archive. There will be something for all ages. And don’t miss the dragon.
