Quarantine support available for international students heading to Leicester
The University of Leicester has published clear guidance for international students traveling to the UK this autumn, offering no-cost accommodation to every student required to quarantine.
With the UK Government categorising all countries into Green, Amber and Red lists depending on their COVID-19 status, the University can now confirm arrangements for students travelling to the UK from, countries from around the world.
Red List countries include India, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while much of mainland Europe has been placed onto an Amber List. The three lists, and the rules for each, are available on the UK Government website.
The University of Leicester can now confirm:
- If you travel from, or through, only Green List countries, you will not need to quarantine.
- If any part of your journey takes you through an Amber List country, you will need to spend 10 days in quarantine. If you are staying in University-managed accommodation, you can move into your room up to 10 days early at no extra cost to complete your quarantine with us. The University will pay for this accommodation, including food and basic essentials.
- If any part of your journey takes you through a Red List country, you will need to spend 10 days in quarantine, in a managed quarantine hotel as soon as you arrive in the UK. You will need to pay for the hotel yourself, but the University will reimburse this cost (up to a limit of £1,750).
This guidance comes in addition to existing support for international students, which includes digital resources to prepare students for study in the UK, complimentary airport pickups, and the UniBuddy platform, which connects prospective learners with current students and staff to answer questions about Leicester.
Danielle Fitzgerald, Director of the Future Students Office, said: “The University is delighted to be able to offer this additional support for international students coming to study at Leicester.
“We were one of the first universities in the UK to offer this level of support and to make this announcement to our students a month or so ago.
“We hope that, by publishing this clear guidance early, we can help reduce the stress of moving to another country to study. As ever, we are encouraging our students to stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming them to the University soon.”
