The Stansted 15 in conversation at Leicester

Join two members of the Stansted 15 for a round table discussion about the rights of asylum seekers and migrants.

In March 2017, a group of 15 activists made headlines by disrupting a government deportation flight out of London Stansted Airport. Their actions led to the 15 being tried for allegedly endangering the safety of an aerodrome, an offence which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

In February, the 15 received suspended sentences and community orders. Now, two of the group, Lyndsay Burtonshaw and Nick Sigsworth, will join us in conversation for a roundtable discussion: Deportation, Resistance, and the Criminalisation of Solidarity.

Alongside them will be several people who have experienced life in immigration detention. The event will also include a discussion with academics on social movements and immigration: Steven Cammiss (University of Leicester), Graeme Hayes (Aston University) and Roda Madziva (University of Nottingham).

The round table will be followed by a discussion with groups that support people in Leicester experiencing the country’s immigration and asylum system.

  • The event will take place on Wednesday 27 March from 5.00pm to 7.00pm in Attenborough Lecture Theatre 1. Register now via Eventbrite or Facebook.
