X501 Petrophysics and Stratigraphy
IODP³–NSF Expedition 501: New England Shelf Hydrogeology investigates freshened water aquifers in the NW Atlantic Ocean. To reconstruct the subsurface geological variability within these aquifers, this project integrates sedimentological, petrophysical, and wireline downhole logging datasets into a unified stratigraphic framework. A key component involves core–log depth correction, aligning core and wireline datasets to produce a consistent and accurate depth framework for future high-resolution core analysis. This work also provides the foundation for seismic integration, enabling observations from individual samples, cores and boreholes to be linked with regional seismic records and broader geological evolution.
