IMechE Formula Student

IMechE Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational engineering competition and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2028, tasking teams to design, build and race a single-seater race car. Championships are held annually at Silverstone in July. University of Leicester Racing has been taking part for 15 years and is now a regular competitor in the dynamic events after a period of continued upward trajectory.

Innova UoL

Innova is an award-winning society with 100+ members based at University of Leicester driven by innovation and provides a platform for like-minded students to collaborate and work together on innovative STEM projects on themes ranging from space and robotics to sustainability and environment . We offer a mix of projects, both theoretical and practical, which can be submitted externally to industries as part of competitions or within the society. Innova will be an opportunity to make ideas come true - ideas that could help reshape the world, that are innovative, creative, original, and inspirational.

NOVUS Rover Alliance

The Olympus Rover Trials (ORT) challenge student teams to design, construct and operate a rover for an analogue sample return mission to Mars. Students create a rover concept, trade off performance parameters and pass through a rigorous review process with a panel of engineers from the space sector. Competition are held annually at Airbus Defence and Space with evolving mission criteria. The UoL NOVUS team have been involved for 5 years and have already developed in a perennial contender.

UoL AreoLabs

UoL AreoLabs is an emerging team who have made two entries to the IMechE UAS Challenge turning a design into a complete aircraft. They designed and manufactured an autonomous fixed wing UAS, and passed scrutineering for the first time in 2026 and are looking to build on the experience in future years.

LUSE Rocketry

LUSE is a student led engineering team at the University of Leicester, led by aerospace engineering students, developing advanced propulsion systems. We design, build and test high performance hardware using first principles engineering and data driven testing for Race2Space UK.
