School of Engineering

About

The School of Engineering opened in 1961, and it has developed into a home for multi-disciplinary Engineering teaching and research. There are approximately 600 students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and 80 postgraduate research students in the School. We offer an outstanding student experience and engage in world-leading research.

The School is based in the world-famous Engineering Building, which was completed in 1962. The building, designed by James Stirling and James Gowan, has attained a Grade II* listed status. The distinctive red brick tower houses offices and two lecture theatres. While, underneath the adjacent glass roof reside laboratories and workshops for undergraduate teaching and postgraduate research. After more than 50 years of service, the glass roof was replaced during a project lasting between May 2015 and April 2017.

We are a very friendly School and encourage you to visit and discover how special Engineering is at the University of Leicester.
