X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Optical microscopy

Researcher with the door open of the Bruker D8 getting samples ready for X-ray diffractionWe perform powder X-ray diffraction with a Bruker D8 instrument on a range of geological, planetary and other materials The AMF also has an optical microscopy suite which contains a variety of instruments which are available for the optical examination of materials. These range from low power stereo zoom microscopes to high power reflected and transmitted light instruments with automated scanning capabilities.

Optical Microscopy Techniques Available:

  • Brightfield Microscopy
  • Darkfield Microscopy
  • Phase Contrast Microscopy
  • Polarised Light Microscopy
  • Automated scanning

For further information on access to any of the instruments please contact amf@le.ac.uk.
