Profile

Emmanuel is currently a lecturer in Vascular Surgery at the NIHR Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Centre, University of Leicester. After qualifying in medicine, he joined the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester in 2009 to pursue a PhD in cerebral haemodynamics, under the supervision of Professor Ronney Panerai. His work was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and led to the award of the Excellent Thesis Prize in 2013.

After clinical placements in the Northwest, Emmanuel was appointed NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery at the University of Manchester, and undertook research into carotid artery disease.  In 2020, he joined the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester as a lecturer in Vascular Surgery to professor MJ Bown. He is supported by the British Heart Foundation Accelerator Award to undertake research in the field of peripheral arterial disease.

Research

Emmanuel’s interests lie in the use of data science to gain insights on the impact of acute kidney injury following endovascular treatment of peripheral arterial disease, and in precision medicine with a focus on individualizing antiplatelet therapy.
