Opening times

The University is closed during Bank Holidays and Closure Days

Christmas 2023

The University will be closed (except for certain facilities - see links below) on Friday 22 December 2023 and will stay closed throughout the Christmas/New Year period.

The University will re-open on Tuesday 2 January 2024. Term starts on Monday 8 January 2024.

Please visit the following pages for the opening times of specific facilities, which may be open when the University as a whole is shut:

Shuttle bus

From 16 December 2023 to 8 January 2024 the University Shuttle Bus service is operating a reduced timetable for the winter holiday period.

Within this period, from 22 December 2023 to 2 January 2024, there will be no buses running, as the service is suspended for the University closure days.

Sports centres

The Danielle Brown and Roger Bettles Sports Centres will be open as normal up to and including Saturday 23 December 2023. Then:

  • 24 December: 8.00am-3.30pm
  • 25-26 December: Closed
  • 27-30 December: 8.00am-7.30pm
  • 31 December: 8.00am-3.30pm
  • 1 January 2024: Closed

Open as normal from Tuesday 2 January. Work off that Christmas dinner!

New and returning students

Visit your Welcome Hub for advice and information on arriving to and registering at the University, and to browse the list of Welcome events.

Activities and events

Our Residence Life programme continues over the Christmas period, with activities on each day. Any Leicester student is welcome to attend these, regardless of whether you live in our halls of residences or private accommodation. No need to book, just turn up.

Urgent support

  • Call 999 for the police, ambulance or fire services. If you feel your safety or wellbeing is at immediate risk, please call 999.
    For urgent medical help that is not life-threatening, ring 111 to speak to a trained professional who will direct you to the appropriate NHS service.
  • University Security is available 24 hours a day. They can respond directly to incidents on campus, including halls of residence and can provide support with reporting incidents to the police. Call 0116 252 2023 (non-emergency) or 0116 252 2888 (emergency).
    This can also be done using the Safezone app on Android and Apple.
  • The Village and The City receptions are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: 0116 252 2428 or accommodation@le.ac.uk.  
  • Health Assured is a confidential service, accessible 24/7, to support you through any issues or problems that life can bring. You can find more details, including the phone line and the website log-in details, on Sharepoint
