The Victorian Studies Centre

We have a distinguished record of innovation and excellence in interdisciplinary research and teaching at postgraduate level. Established in 1966 with a generous grant from the Leverhulme Trust, we are the longest established Victorian Studies Centre in Britain.

The Centre's research and teaching staff are drawn from the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and comprise members from EnglishHistory (which includes the internationally renowned Centres for Urban History and English Local History) and History of Art and Film.

We also have various international links, including with the National Library of India, Kolkata and the English Department at the Tianjin Normal University, China.

In 2017 we celebrated our half-centenary. This is the online version of our anniversary exhibition.
