Overview

The College of Life Sciences is offering two PhD studentships to students studying on the MSc Cancer Cell and Molecular Biology and MSc Molecular Genetics to start January 2025

Eligibility criteria 

These studentships are open only to applicants studying one of the following courses at the University of Leicester, with a start date of September 2023, or January 2024.

  • MSc Cancer Cell and Molecular Biology 
  • MSc Molecular Genetics

Entry requirements:

  • Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) an overall distinction grade in the MSc, and a distinction grade in the MSc project.

  • Prospective students are required to identify a suitable PhD supervisor (links to supervisors are below), and agree a project title and project outline with their proposed supervisor. You will be required to submit a brief project proposal outline with your application.
  • Please refer to the How to Apply section below and use the application link at the bottom of the page to submit your application. We will allocation successful candidates to the appropriate School/PhD at the point of offer.

Two College of Life Sciences 3.5 year studentships available.

  • Stipend at UKRI rates - currently £19,237 per year for 2024/25
    Tuition fees at UK rates

*International students are welcome to apply but must be able to demonstrate that they can fund the difference between UK and International fees for the duration of their study. The difference in fees payable by the student will be £18,864 (2024/25) per year of study.

Prospective students are required to identify a suitable PhD supervisor, and agree a project title and project outline with their proposed supervisor. 

With your application, please include:

  • CV
  • Personal statement explaining your interest in studying for a PhD, your experience and why we should consider you
  • Degree Certificates and Transcripts of study already completed and if possible transcript to date of study currently being undertaken
  • Evidence of English language proficiency if applicable
  • In the reference section please enter the contact details of your two academic referees in the boxes provided or upload letters of reference if already available. At least one of your referees should be from your current Masters programme. Referees should not be your potential PhD supervisor.

In the funding section please specify that you wish to be considered for the MSc MG/CCMB 2024 studentship

In the proposal section please provide the name of the supervisor(s), project title, and a brief project proposal outline of up to 500 words.
