With so much to do it can be hard to know where to start, so here are a few of our highlights.
You'll never be bored with so many activities to get stuck into in Leicester. Fancy a little crazy golf? Enjoy a night out at over-18 golf spot, Caddyshackers, or enjoy a jungle themed putting session at Treetop Adventure Golf. Climb up the walls at Leicester's bouldering centre, Social Climbing, or knock down some bowling pins at East Street Lanes and Lane7. From board game cafes to trampolining parks, find it all within Leicester city centre.
If you enjoy live music you'll love Leicester's independent venue scene. Who knows when you might spot the next big thing! Acts such as Royal Blood, George Ezra and Frank Turner have all performed intimate shows in the city, and for the more established acts you couldn't be closer to the action. Yes, the O2 Academy is right here on campus and De Montfort Hall is just next door. Grab tickets for acts including The Courteeners, Paloma Faith, Shed Seven and Fontaines D.C.
Not just music, Leicester also has an incredible comedy scene. Every February Leicester Comedy Festival takes over the whole city with big name acts, comedy workshops, activities and more.
Food and drink
From Arabic to Vietnamese and all that's in between, Leicester's food and drink scene is incredibly diverse and the city centre is packed full of wonderful independents catering for all tastebuds. For your street food fix head down to visit the traders in the Goods Yard at Lane7, or check out the monthly LastFriday street food event at LCB Depot. Enjoy bottomless brunch at Turtle Bay, chicken wings and cocktails at Bunk, Leicester's best burger at Crafty, late night bar food at Firebug or all day desserts at Bru, and wonderful locally roasted coffee at Leicester Coffee House.
You'll be spoilt for choice with Leicester's pubs, late night cocktail bars and nightclubs. There's something on every night of the week, with Monsta Mondays at Club Republic or enjoy your favourite indie hits on the dancefloor at Mosh every Tuesday. Share a cocktail tree with friends at Olivia's Townhouse, check out the wide range of locally brewed craft beers at The Two Tailed Lion, and fill your diary up with all of the special student deals across town.
Leicester is packed full of wonderful independent coffee shops, with many of them even roasting their own coffee in house. Whether you want a caffeine kick whilst you work on an assignment, or perhaps you're looking for a weekly meeting venue with friends, the city centre will leave you spoilt for choice. Highlights include The Coffee Counter and Leicester Coffee House, who you can watch roasting their own coffee in house, St Martin's Coffee who also offer a tasty breakfast and lunch menu, and Prana, one of Leicester's first 100% vegan coffee shops.
As a vegan I often used to struggle to find cafes and restaurant with much choice, but I've discovered so many new favourites in Leicester. KAI and Prana are my go to brunch and lunch places.
