Global Lounge
The University of Leicester’s Global Lounge is a vibrant and welcoming social space where international and home students can connect and discover new cultures in a relaxed environment while enjoying a programme of fun, free activities.
If you’re an international student, it’s also where you can find your dedicated International Student Experience team. We are here to provide you with practical support to help you settle into life in the UK and make Leicester your home away from home.
Who is the Global Lounge for?
The Global Lounge is open to all University of Leicester students and staff who:
- Want to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds.
- Are interested in conversation, community, and connection.
- Want to develop their intercultural awareness and communication skills and expand their global outlook.
Where to find it
Located on the ground floor of the Charles Wilson Building (next to Delicious), we have lots of comfy seating, kitchenette facilities, and even a table tennis table – perfect for a quick game between classes!
Global Lounge events
The International Student Experience team work with teams across the University to deliver an exciting programme of events and activities all year round.
Our events are open to all students – international and home – and are designed to help you:
- Connect with others from around the world.
- Discover new cultures and share your own.
- Feel part of the wider university community.
- Build your confidence and skills.

Attending [Global Lounge events] was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to connect with students from around the world and build lasting friendships.
I met people from different cultures and shared conversations, laughter, and new experiences. It’s a place where strangers become friends, and you really feel that you belong.
Welcome events
During our Welcome periods, we have a fun-filled programme of events designed to help you make friends and settle in. From Welcome Workshops to Global Games Afternoons and Craft Workshops, there’s something for everyone.
Cultural events and celebrations
Throughout the year, there are plenty of opportunities to experience traditions, festivals, and culturally themed events.
From practising a new language through our Language and Culture Exchange to taking part in our Bhangra Workshops or enjoying a relaxing craft activity with a new friend, there's always something new to discover.

Whether you're helping us to run events and welcome new students, or bringing your own ideas for cultural, wellbeing or creative activities to life, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
