Chris Vaughan

Headshot of Chris VaughanChris Vaughan is a recently retired General Counsel and Company Secretary of large (FTSE 100) international listed groups, with a broad background in corporate law.

With over 15 years of experience around the Plc board table, his last role was as General Counsel of Whitbread Plc, where he was Company Secretary and also took the lead on ESG/sustainability issues across the group.  Prior to that, he was General Counsel at Balfour Beatty Plc, where he also had responsibility for corporate affairs, and has also worked for SAB Miller Plc and Bass Plc.  Chris qualified as a lawyer with Freshfields, an international law firm.

Specific areas of interest for Chris include advising boards on complex transactions, crisis management, regulatory issues, corporate affairs, and ESG/sustainability issues.  He has sat on the Executive Committees of both Balfour Beatty and Whitbread.

Chris is a graduate of the University of Leicester in Law with French, and found Leicester not only to have been a stimulating academic environment, but also a formative and enjoyable experience which provided the platform for a successful future career.  

Chris met his wife at University and they have three children.
