University appoints Professor Robin Graham-Brown as Pro-Chancellor (Philanthropy)

The University of Leicester has appointed Professor Robin Graham-Brown as its new Pro-Chancellor (Philanthropy), reinforcing its commitment to philanthropic support and the success of its ambitious 2121: Founders of the Future Campaign. The honorary appointment takes effect from 1 August 2026 and will support the University's efforts to grow philanthropic investment in education, research and opportunity for future generations. 

A distinguished clinician, charity leader and longstanding supporter of the University, Professor Graham-Brown has been a member of University Court since 2013 and previously chaired both the University's Development and Philanthropy Advisory Boards and the Strategic Fundraising Committee. He holds an Honorary Chair in the College of Life Sciences and is an Emeritus Consultant Dermatologist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. 

As Pro-Chancellor (Philanthropy), Professor Graham-Brown will act as an ambassador and advocate for the University, supporting engagement with donors, supporters and partners while helping advance the University's £100 million 2121: Founders of the Future Campaign. 

Professor Graham-Brown enjoyed a distinguished career as a Consultant Dermatologist spanning more than three decades. He has held numerous leadership positions in medicine and healthcare, perhaps most notably being elected President of the British Association of Dermatologists in 2005. Alongside his professional achievements, he has dedicated many years to charitable and voluntary service, including most recently as Chair of the Board of Trustees and now Vice President at LOROS, the Hospice for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

His connection to the University extends beyond his governance and ambassadorial roles. A generous supporter of Leicester for more than a decade, he has made gifts in support of initiatives including cardiovascular research, student scholarships and the University’s Greatest Need Fund, while regularly supporting University events and activities. 

Professor Robin Graham-Brown said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to assume this important role. The University of Leicester has played a hugely significant role in my clinical and academic life and I will continue do my utmost to ensure that it is able to maintain and extend its contribution in so many vital areas.”

The appointment forms part of the University's wider Pro-Chancellor programme, which supports key areas of strategic importance through experienced ambassadors and advocates drawn from business, philanthropy and community leadership. Following the appointment of Dr Vijay Sharma as Pro-Chancellor (Community Engagement) in 2023, the University has also appointed Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL as Pro-Chancellor (Enterprise), broadening the University's external influence and supporting its ambitions across community engagement, philanthropy and enterprise.
