Nabeela Hazim dreamt of studying medicine in Bulgaria when her path changed course – quite literally.

The 21-year old from Qatar changed her mind and, after spotting an advert for Medical Physiology as part of The University of Leicester’s Clearing adverts, decided to look further into this by getting in touch with the team - and the rest, as they say, is history.

The course in Leicester teaches students about the human body - its cells, systems and complex interactions between ions, atoms and molecules. Students gain an understanding of physiology and disease and the potential to develop new therapies to target this.

Now, thanks to the course, she is aiming for a career in Cardiac Physiology.

“It was a course I'd never heard of before, so I read more about it and found the content really interesting,” Nabeela said.

“It seemed like a great fit for my interests, so I decided to apply through Clearing.

“I've really enjoyed it and although my original plan changed, I've discovered a genuine interest in physiology.

“The course has been fascinating and studying how the human body functions in such depth has confirmed my passion for it. Looking back, I'm really glad I chose Medical Physiology.”

Nabeela says that the University made the Clearing process very simple and easy to follow.

“It was a very straight forward process. The call handler I spoke to was friendly and supportive, explained each step clearly, and made me feel at ease throughout the call. They answered all my questions and made the whole experience much less stressful than I expected.”

Not only that but Nabeela, who has just graduated, added that Leicester now feels like “home.”

“Moving from Qatar was a big change, but Leicester is such a diverse and welcoming city that settling in was much easier than I expected. I've met people from lots of different backgrounds, and the inclusive environment has made my university experience really enjoyable.

“Going through Clearing turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. I found a course I genuinely enjoy, developed a passion for physiology, and became part of a university and city where I've felt supported throughout my time here.”
