Free event for budding innovators and researchers of medical technology
University of Leicester campus
Do you have an innovative new idea that uses technology solutions to improve people’s lives and wellbeing?
The University of Leicester’s Biomedical Research Group (BERG) would like to invite budding researchers and medical innovators to a free event on 1 September showcasing innovations that are already making a real difference.
Attendees will have the chance to explore opportunities for getting new projects off the ground, discover funding prospects and meet the BERG team to see the type of support it can provide towards the creation of new cutting-edge technologies for medicine.
Dr Tim Pearce from BERG said: “Whether it’s the creation of new devices, software solutions and systems designed to improve patient care, diagnosis, treatment, and overall health management, we would like to hear from you.
“This exciting and rapidly evolving field includes everything from wearable health monitors and telemedicine platforms to AI-powered diagnostic tools, advanced medical imaging and technologies and tissue engineering, all aimed at enhancing healthcare efficiency, accessibility, and improving patient outcomes.
“We hope to encourage as many innovators and researchers as possible to come along to this MedTech event. It’s free to attend and there will be presentations throughout with the chance to network with other likeminded people and of course the team here at the University. We hope the event will appeal to clinicians, engineers, computer scientists, industry partners and research leaders in health or medical technology.”
Dr Pearce will give an opening address and provide a strategic overview of Leicester’s MedTech landscape. Other speakers include Dr Tom Ward from the University of Leicester’s Department of Respiratory Sciences and Arshia Gratiot – CEO of diagnostics company, Eupnoos, who will explore smartphone-based technologies for lung health. Dr Saravana Jaganathan from BERG and Dr Nick Tucker from the School of Engineering at the University of Lincoln will discuss design and development of engineered cardiac patches.
There will also be two parallel workshops around medical device innovation to choose from - Dr Josef Walker and Manish Asiani from the University of Leicester’s Commercial & IP Team will run a workshop on medical device development: Lab to Launch - Early Stage Perspectives on Medical Device Technology Development, while David Hawkins, Managing Partner and Principal Consultant at Sotas Ltd, will explain medical device compliance through an interactive workshop: Level Up Your Innovation: TRLs, Regulations, and the Road to Market.
The event’s keynote speaker is Neil Ebeneezer from the Department for Business and Trade, which recently merged with the Office for Life Sciences. Neil will provide the national perspective on healthcare technology, innovation policy and implementation of medical technologies and genomics globally across inward investment and exports.
Finally, there will be a panel discussion in the afternoon hosting all speakers on the day to map out medical technology strategy at Leicester over the coming years.
Tickets to the event, which runs from 9.30am until 4pm in the University's Sir Bob Burgess building, along with a full programme schedule are available by clicking on the link.
