Industry professionals give up their time to inspire the next generation at University of Leicester event
A host of successful Black professionals will be encouraging young people to follow in their footsteps at a free University of Leicester employability event.
The Leicester Employability Day, which takes place on Wednesday 16 April, is for those aged 13 to 22, and their parents or carers. It is open to all and may be of particular interest to young Black people of African, Caribbean and dual heritage.
Black professionals, including accountants, data scientists, dentists, engineers, computer scientists, teachers, investors and business owners, will be on hand to chat to young people about the career opportunities open to them
Event-goers will also be able to speak to exhibitors from East Midlands Airport, Grant Thornton UK LLP, Jaguar Land Rover, Leicester College, Leicestershire Police, Loughborough University, Sporting Equals, Twin Group, the RAF, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, the Department of Work and Pensions and the University of Leicester.
Organiser of the event, Clive D. Fraser, who is a Professor of Economics at the University, said: “Whether you’re at school, or just about to graduate, it can be overwhelming when you try to find out about the careers open to you.
“One of the best ways to find out what might be the right path for you is to hear from those who have been there and done it. Bringing together a range of successful professionals to pass on their advice is one of the best ways of inspiring our young people to take control of their future. We have an incredible line-up of experts and cannot wait for them to inspire the next generation.”
You can listen to Professor Fraser’s interview with BBC Radio Leicester about the University’s Employability Day (starts 1h 19m).
