Leicester professor elected fellow of prestigious Academy of Social Science

A University of Leicester academic has been elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Social Science.

Professor Teela Sanders is amongst 64 outstanding social scientists to be welcomed to the Fellowship.

The Academy’s Fellowship comprises 1,600 leading social scientists from academia, the public, private and third sectors.

Professor Sanders is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Social Science, Arts and Humanities.

Her research sits on the borders of criminology and sociology, exploring the inter-relationship between gender, sexuality and socio-legal structures.

Professor Sanders said: “I am honoured to be accepted into this national professional body for the social sciences and to take part in the campaign to promote the importance of social sciences in our universities, partnerships and communities.

“In such difficult times, it is the social sciences as a set of disciplines that can find solutions to difficult and complex regional, national and global problems.”

President of the Academy of Social Science, Will Hutton FAcSS said: “I’m delighted to welcome these 64 outstanding social scientists to the Academy’s Fellowship, whose research and practice are helping to develop solutions to pressing societal issues.

“From informing decision-making around environmental challenges and encouraging entrepreneurial growth to improving planning systems and tackling educational inequalities, their insights, skills and understanding are delivering positive impact to improve our daily lives.”
