Students and staff from the University of Leicester will be behind a range of activities planned for Leicester’s Old Town Festival: Roman Edition.

The family friendly free-entry festival concerning all things Roman takes place in Jubilee Square on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April.

Representatives from the University’s Heritage Hub and University of Leicester Archaeology Services will be running activities linked to everyday life in Roman Leicester. They include the chance to handle the city’s Roman finds, explore the contents of a Roman cesspit, have a go in a dig pit and investigate archaeological evidence for diet and disease in a pop-up lab. LeicSurvey will be on hand to gather feedback throughout the event.

Alongside the University representatives, The Old Town Festival: Roman Edition also features organisations including Leicester Museums and Galleries, Culture Leicestershire and the Friends of the Jewry Wall Museum.

The event will run across multiple venues, with events including the construction of a monumental Roman forum in cardboard led by internationally renowned artist Olivier Grossetête.
