Two new Heads of School announced

Two new Heads of School have been appointed within the University of Leicester’s College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (CSSAH).
Lisa Smith, Professor of Criminology at the University of Leicester, has been appointed as the Head of the School of Criminology. Having joined the School in 2011 after working for five years in the Forensic Psychology department at Leicester, Professor Smith was appointed as the Director of the Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies in 2017 and previously served as the Deputy Head of the School of Criminology.
Professor Krista Cowman joins the University of Leicester as the new Head of the School of History, Politics and International Relations from the University of Lincoln, where she also served as Director of Research within the College of Arts.
Professor Cowman joined the University of Lincoln in 2006 as Professor of History, after working in the School of Cultural Studies, Leeds Metropolitan University, and the Department of History, University of York. She is a modern British historian specialising in women’s activism and politics
Professor Henrietta O’Connor, Head of College of Social Science, Arts and Humanities and Professor of Sociology at the University of Leicester, said: “I am delighted to welcome two immensely talented Heads of School to the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at the University of Leicester.
“I very much look forward working with both Krista and Lisa, and am confident they will lead their respective Schools from strength to strength."
Speaking about her appointment, Professor Lisa Smith said: “The School of Criminology has been my home for the past 10 years, and I’m extremely proud to be part of such a vibrant academic and student community with a long history of excellent teaching and impactful research. So it is a great privilege to be appointed as incoming Head of School, and to work with the team to shape the future of Criminology at the University of Leicester.”
Speaking about her appointment, Professor Krista Cowman said: “I’m excited to be joining the University of Leicester and am really looking forward to meeting my new colleagues.”
Both started their new roles on 1st August 2021.
