Leicester staff member to appear on Sky's Portrait Artist of the Year 2019
University of Leicester’s Megan McMullan will make her TV debut competing against other amateur artists on Sky’s Portrait Artist of the Year 2019.
University of Leicester Porter Megan McMullan will feature on Sky’s Portrait Artist of the Year 2019. The programme featuring amateur artist Megan airs on Tuesday 26 February, and will see her and eight other contestants paint a celebrity sitter as they compete to get through to the next round.
Megan’s talent was first discovered by her mum at the age of seven and her love for the subject has just grown and grown. Megan’s role at the University gives her access to plenty of willing subjects to capture on canvas. Find out more about Megan and her love of art in this video:
Megan said: "Taking part in Sky Arts portrait artist of the year 2019 was such an amazing experience. I had the chance to meet so many nice people and also the wonderful celebrities! It was a weird feeling of nervousness and excitement, but once I started to paint I felt my nerves ease and you soon get used to the cameras.
"I got to paint Eddie Hall, the world’s strongest man - he was so nice and a very good sitter. It was a struggle to finish a portrait in just 4 hours, but I just managed it!"
Join us in wishing Megan the best of luck in the competition and tune into Sky Arts at 8.00pm on Tuesday 26 February.
