Student wellbeing campaign nominated for second national award
Our Sport and Active Life team’s commitment to making a difference has been recognised at a national level with a British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS) award nomination for their Be the Influence campaign.
Be the Influence is the positive lifestyle campaign designed to promote wellbeing in 4 areas of students life: Physical, Mental, Social and Sexual. The campaign encourages students to look after their own wellbeing whilst acting as ambassadors for their clubs, Team Leicester and the University as a whole.
Throughout the 2017/18 academic year, Team Leicester clubs have been supporting a variety of social campaigns that tie into the four main pillars of the programme, including wearing white ribbons and sweatbands during their fixtures to promote the White Ribbon Campaign against Gender Violence.
In May, the Sport and Active Life team also unveiled their new sports kits that include the #HeForShe logo in support of the University’s commitment to the global solidarity movement for gender equality led by UN Women.
The TakeAStand award recognises and rewards institutions for their inclusive approach to sport. The Leicester team was also nominated for this award in 2017.
Team Leicester Project Coordinator Tolu Oyewusi said: “The fact that this is the second nomination for the TakeAStand award is testament to the dedication of all Leicester students and the belief that they have in the Be The Influence campaign. The campaign was only created in the 2015/16 academic year and yet has seen such success in a short space of time.
“Whether we win or not, it’s great to see the campaign being recognised on a national scale and can only mean more success in the future. Nevertheless, best of luck to the Sports Experience Team who will be in Bristol next Thursday, hopefully it’s coming home.”
This year’s winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 12th July 2018.
