Literary Leicester to host one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary British Fiction Gwendoline Riley

The University of Leicester will welcome award-winning novelist Gwendoline Riley to campus on Friday 17 November for the tenth annual Literary Leicester festival.

For the event, taking place between 6.15 and 7.15 pm in the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre, Gwendoline will be reading from her latest novel First Love and taking questions from the audience.

Dr Victoria Stewart from the School Of Arts will be introducing Gwendoline at the event. She said: “We’re delighted that Gwendoline Riley, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary British fiction, will be joining us at Literary Leicester.

“First Love was shortlisted for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Gordon Burn Prize, which highlights innovative new writing, and also for the Goldsmiths Prize. A searing portrait of a marriage and a meditation on the pains and pleasures of creativity, First Love was described by Stuart Evers in the Observer as ‘a devastating journey into the ungovernable reaches of the heart.’”
