Anthropocene book series launches in Croatia with book on the far-future Earth by Leicester geologist

A new book series titled ‘Anthropocene’ has just been launched by Croatia’s leading academic book publisher Skolska knjiga, with the first title being Zemlja nakon nas, a new translation of The Earth After Us by Professor Jan Zalasiewicz of our School of Geography, Geology and the Environment. 

Originally published in 2008 by Oxford University Press and subsequently translated into German, this book explores the legacy of human-driven global environmental change, as seen through the eyes of aliens landing on the Earth of a hundred million years in the future.

The scientific editor-in-chief of this new series is Professor Davor Vidas, Director of the Law of the Sea and Marine Affairs programme at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute in Oslo, who is Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Leicester. 

Professor Vidas has pioneered the use of the Anthropocene concept in helping frame future developments of the Law of the Sea, collaborating with Professors Jan Zalasiewicz and with Mark Williams of the University of Leicester to explore the important and growing connections between geology and international law.
