Fabulous First Year launched for students

The University has launched its Fabulous First Year initiative designed to support students to access the range of services and opportunities available to them at university.

A whole range of services are now available to students including a new app called MyUoL which allows them to access daily university information in one place including timetables, library search and university news.

First year and foundation students will attend a Matriculation ceremony at De Montfort Hall, a new event formally welcoming them to Leicester as well as outlining what they can expect over the course of their degree.

Other initiatives include the Residence Life Programme, Peer Monitoring Scheme and 'Something for everyone sport' - the details of which can be found on the Fabulous First Year website.

The Students' Union also has a whole host of events and activities for this year’s Freshers’ week starting Monday 26 September, featuring the likes of 90s phenomenon the Chuckle Brothers, rapper and MC Big Narstie and chart-topper Becky Hill.

Other events include their annual Fresh Fair, a Volunteer and Well-Fair event, Find Your Campus Festival and Hello Leicester Festival. Further details can be found on the SU's website.

Over the summer, the former Career Development Service space in the Percy Gee Building has been transformed into a fresh and dynamic campus SHOP! which will sell gig and club night tickets, NUS cards, bus passes, newspapers, stationery and merchandise, offer print collection, binding and a whole lot more. The Career Development Service is now situated in the Charles Wilson Building.

Students have also been invited to get creative with the Students’ Union logo and share their designs about who they are or what they want to become via social media. More information about the competition and prizes can be found on their website.
