Student duo strike gold at British Universities and Colleges Sport events

Two final year undergraduate students, Ryan Hunt and Lucy Hatton, have secured gold medals in their respective disciplines at two recent British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) events.

Ryan Hunt, a 3rd year Natural Sciences student and Canoeing gold and platinum scholar, won both the sprint and classic races on 9 April at the BUCS Wild Water race on the River Washburn - in which the University of Leicester placed in the top 5 overall.

In the following week Ryan also gained national recognition at the Great Britain team selection event held from 16-17 April at Grandtully in Scotland. Ryan is now eligible to represent Great Britain in a number of upcoming international events, beginning with the World Championships in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 1 June.

3rd year Criminology student, platinum scholar and European indoor silver medallist over the 60m hurdles, Lucy Hatton, won gold at the BUCS 100m hurdles heat in Bedford.

During the event Lucy broke the BUCS record in both heats and the final - setting 13.27 seconds as the new championship record.
