University 2015 gospel choir champions to defend title
The University's gospel choir, Leicester University Voices (LUV) has been shortlisted to sing at this year’s national finals of a university choir competition.
LUV will be competing to defend their title at the 6th annual University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) competition, due to take place on Saturday 5 March at the Hippodrome, North London.
The competition allows participants to perform in front of a large audience and also receive feedback from some of the most esteemed figures in the UK Gospel scene.
With entries from over 25 other universities, LUV beat off stiff competition to secure their place in the final. They will be competing against seven other choirs from Coventry University, DeMontfort University, Middlesex University, The University of Portsmouth, The University of Southampton and Canterbury Christ Church Gospel Choir.
Pelumi Obasaju, Vice President at Leicester University Voices, said: “UGCY is an amazing platform for students to not only showcase their talent but also share their passion for gospel music with like-minded individuals. Since winning UGCY 2015 so many opportunities have come our way and it has enabled us to spread the gospel message more around campus. LUV has grown this year, yet we still remain a family not just a group of singers.”
